Do a penance

When your keyholder gives you a penance, you're notified straight away (for example "Morgan assigned you a penance").

Find your penance

• Open penances show on your Home screen as "You have a penance". Tap one to open it.
• On a computer or tablet, Penances in the side menu lists them all, open ones first.
• The notification opens it too.

The penance page shows who it's from, what to do, how to do it (for example "Photo or video proof") and when it's due. If a penance was issued for a missed task, it says so and links to the task.

Send your proof

1. Read the instructions and do the penance.
2. Note Your code (for example K7PX).
3. Add a Note to your keyholder if you like.
4. Send the proof:
   • 📷 Take photo opens the camera in CageCheck. Your photo is stamped with the code automatically.
   • 🎥 Record video opens your camera to record. Start the video by saying your code out loud.
   • Photo from library or Video from library lets you pick a file you already have.
   • From My media lets you pick from the photos and videos you keep in My media.
5. Wait for the upload to finish. The penance changes to Proof submitted.

Videos can be up to 2 minutes and 100 MB. Location data is removed from every file. Only you, your keyholder and CageCheck moderators can see your proof.

Do it live instead (optional)

For a penance that asks for proof, you can choose to do it live: on a private video call with your keyholder, or live on CageCheck with your followers or all members watching. Use Call Morgan or 🔴 Go live on CageCheck in the Do it live instead? (optional) card. Your keyholder can then accept it as done live, and you can still send proof too. See Live penances.

Some penances must be done live. Those don't have proof buttons; the page shows how to start instead.

Video calls and going live need a verified ID. If you haven't verified yours, the card shows Verify my ID instead of the call and live buttons (see Verify your ID).

After you send it

• Accepted: your keyholder accepted it. You see ✓ Accepted, with their note if they left one, and you're notified.
• Redo requested: they want new proof. Their note shows at the top. Send new proof the same way. A redo always leaves you at least 12 hours: if the penance was due sooner, its deadline moves out to 12 hours from the request.

Each proof you send is listed under Your proof with its number and whether it's In review, Accepted or Redo.

If it's overdue

A Penance due soon reminder comes about 2 hours before it's due. If the time passes, it shows Overdue and your keyholder is told. You can still send proof (or do it live, for a live penance), and your keyholder can give you more time.

While tasks and penances are paused, the penance shows Paused instead of a due time and can't go overdue. See Pause tasks and penances.

If you can't or won't do it

Tap 🛑 Use my safeword at the bottom of the penance page. It declines the penance with no penalty, and your keyholder is told. See Safeword.
