Tasks
Keyholder tasks: one-off, repeating, or on chosen days of the week; private ones just between you two; proof with several photos and videos; deadlines, reminders, tasks in the feed and an optional penance if they're missed.
A task is something a keyholder asks the member they hold to do by a deadline, like writing in their journal or exercising. Tasks can happen once, repeat every day or every week, or come round on the days you choose (say, Mondays and Fridays). A task can be private, just between the two of you. A keyholder can attach a penance that's issued automatically if the task is missed.
Setting a task (keyholders)
- On Home, tap the member you hold (for example Riley).
- In the Tasks card, tap + New task. Their hard limits show at the top of the sheet.
- Pick an idea under Start from, or write your own under What should Riley do?
- Under What it involves, tick anything the task involves (for example Anything in public or outdoors). Riley's hard limits are marked, and a task that involves one can't be set.
- Under Proof, choose Photo, Video, Either, or Mark done (no proof: they just tap a button and you're told).
- Under Repeat, choose Once, Every day, Every week or On days.
- For Once, Every day or Every week, choose the Deadline: Within (1 hour to 1 week) or By a time (at least 15 minutes from now, and within 30 days). For On days, see below.
- Tick Private: just between you two if it shouldn't go on their feed for others to see (see Private tasks).
- Leave If they miss it, issue a penance automatically ticked and describe the penance, its proof and how long they'll have. Under What the penance involves, tick anything it involves, like the task's. Untick it for no penance.
- Tick Save as a template to reuse it later (up to 30 templates, marked ★ under Start from).
- Tap Set task.
Riley sees the penance for missing it when they get the task. A member can have up to 20 open tasks from you at once.
Setting tasks is one of the powers Riley gives you, and they can set limits on it: how many can be open at once, the shortest deadline, and whether private tasks are okay. The sheet shows what they allow, and an automatic penance needs their Penances power (with automatic ones allowed).
On chosen days
Choose On days, tap the days (for example Mon and Fri), and set Due by (for example 9:00 PM). The sheet says when, for example "Mondays and Fridays by 9:00 PM, where Riley lives".
- The time is in Riley's time zone, taken from their phone or computer, so 9 PM is 9 PM for them wherever you are, including when the clocks change.
- When one's deadline passes, the next one opens, due by that time on the next chosen day. The first is due on the first chosen day that's at least 15 minutes away.
- Riley's task page says Repeats Mondays and Fridays by 9:00 PM.
Reviewing and managing tasks
Tap a task on the member's page to open it.
- Accept or Ask for a redo, with an optional note. When they sent several files together, you see them all and Accept all accepts them at once. A redo for proof that came on time gets at least 12 hours. Each proof is marked To review, Accepted or Redo asked.
- +24 hours gives more time. Cancel task cancels it.
- For a repeating task, Stop repeating ends the series. When you cancel one, you can choose Cancel this one and stop repeating or Only cancel this one.
- For a missed task, Excuse the miss lets it go and cancels the penance it issued. Late proof you accept doesn't cancel that penance on its own.
- When a missed task issued a penance, the task shows Penance issued and where it stands (for example Awaiting proof). Tap Open the penance to see it.
Doing a task (locked members)
You're notified when you get a task. Open tasks show on your Home screen; on a computer, More → Tasks lists them all.
- Open the task and read it. If there's a penance for missing it, it shows under "If you miss the deadline".
- Do the task before the deadline.
- Add your proof: 📷 Take photo (stamped with the task's code automatically), 🎥 Record video (say the code out loud, up to 2 minutes), or choose from your library or My media (From My media). For a task that says "No proof needed", tap ✓ Mark done instead.
- Your keyholder accepts your proof or asks for a redo. When you mark a task done, your keyholder is told and there's nothing to review.
You get a Task due soon reminder about 2 hours before the deadline (sooner for short tasks).
Several photos and videos together
A task's proof can be up to 6 photos and videos, sent together: say, a video of you doing it and a photo after.
- Take or choose the first one. It waits on the page instead of being sent.
- Tap 📷 Add a photo or 🎥 Add a video for the next ones. Tap × on one to take it out.
- Tap Send all 2 to Morgan (or Send it for just one).
Your keyholder is told once and reviews them together. If the upload stops partway, the ones already sent count, and the rest stay on the page to send again.
Private tasks
A private task is just between you and your keyholder. Either of you can make a task private: when setting it, or later with Make it private on the task (for a repeating task, every time it repeats). Only the one who made it private can make it normal again.
- When it's done, the post shows only on your two feeds, with 🔒 Private and Just you two. Your followers and other members never see it, and it can't be shared outside CageCheck.
- If it's missed and a penance is issued, your feed only says you were given a penance for not completing a private task. What the task was stays between you.
- Everything else works as usual: reminders, notifications, review and penances.
- Your proof is seen only by you, your keyholder and CageCheck moderators, and never goes on the feed, even if your keyholder can post your other proof. Moderators can see private tasks too, for everyone's safety.
Proof on the feed
If Riley agrees, Morgan can post the proof they accept on Riley's feed, blurred until tapped. Once agreed, Riley can't take it back until Morgan lifts it, but can always delete a single post. Private tasks never go up. See Proof on the feed.
Tasks in the feed
When a task is done (your keyholder accepts it, or you mark it done), your feed says you completed a task from Morgan, for the people who see your activity. It doesn't say what the task was or show your proof. At most one goes up every 3 hours, so daily tasks don't fill the feed. A penance for a missed task shows too.
These follow your activity in the feed setting: if that's off, nothing is posted, private tasks included.
Missed tasks and late proof
If the deadline passes, the task shows Missed and you're both told. If your keyholder attached a penance, it's issued straight away, due within the time they chose.
You can still send late proof, or tap ✓ Mark done (late). The task then shows Late proof sent or Done late, but the penance stands unless your keyholder excuses the miss.
While the penance it issued is open, a missed task keeps 🛑 Use my safeword: it declines the task and its penance together, with no penalty. See Your safeword.
Nothing is marked missed while your account is on hold (confirming your email, new terms or an ID check), and repeating tasks wait. Once the hold is lifted you have 24 hours to catch up; anything still overdue after that is marked missed.
Repeating tasks
When a repeating task's deadline passes, the next one opens and you're notified: with a deadline a day (or a week) later, or for the next chosen day. Each one has its own code and is reviewed on its own.
A member can have at most 20 open tasks. While they're at that limit, a repeating task waits instead of opening a new one.
Pausing
Either of you can pause tasks and penances for illness, travel or a break. Deadlines are on hold and repeating tasks wait. When you resume, a one-off task is due 24 hours later (or keeps the time it had left, if longer), and a repeating task picks up again the next day at its usual time. See Pause tasks and penances.
