Your safeword

Your safeword lets you decline any penance or task from your keyholder, no questions asked. There's never a penalty for using it: nothing is issued for it, and it doesn't count as a miss.

How to use it

1. Open the penance or task (from your Home screen, the notification, or the Penances or Tasks page). During a call or live for a penance, use the ⚖️ Live penance panel instead (see below).
2. At the bottom, tap 🛑 Use my safeword.
3. Add anything you want your keyholder to know (optional).
4. If it goes against one of your hard limits, tick This crosses my hard limit.
5. For a repeating task, tick Also stop this task repeating if you don't want any more of them.
6. Tap Decline the penance (or Decline the task). Never mind takes you back.

The button is there while the penance or task is waiting for you, waiting for a redo, or while your proof is being reviewed. Once something is accepted, cancelled or declined, it's closed.

What happens next

• The penance or task shows Safeword used for both of you, with your note if you wrote one.
• Your keyholder is notified that you used your safeword, with your note or "No penalty applies. Talk it through with them."
• Nothing is issued in its place.
• If you ticked This crosses my hard limit, your keyholder's alert says so, and the penance or task shows it. If you report your keyholder, CageCheck's moderators see the ones from the last 30 days with your report.

During a call or live

You don't have to leave first. On the call or live for your penance:

1. Tap the ⚖️ Live penance panel if it's folded, to open it.
2. Tap 🛑 Use my safeword at the bottom of the panel.
3. Add a note if you like, then tap Decline the penance.

Then:

• The call or live for it ends straight away, and your keyholder sees that you used your safeword.
• Recordings you're making, recordings waiting for you to decide, and recordings still being prepared are deleted. Nothing is sent.
• Recordings you already sent stay with the penance. You can delete them yourself at any time (see Recording a live penance).

You can also end the call or live first and use your safeword from the penance page. It works the same way.

Missed tasks

If a task was missed and the penance it issued is still open, the task keeps 🛑 Use my safeword. Using it declines the task and its penance together, with no penalty, and your keyholder is told ("Its penance is declined too."). You can also use your safeword on the penance itself.

Even when your account is on hold

If CageCheck is waiting for something from you (confirming your email, agreeing to new terms, or verifying your ID again), that screen lists your open tasks and penances, each with Use my safeword. You can also end the pairing or block your keyholder there. Nothing counts as missed and no penance goes overdue while you're on hold, or for 24 hours after it's lifted.

Other ways to stay safe

• On your Keyholder tab you can list your hard limits, including kinds of live penance that aren't okay for you.
• You can pause tasks and penances for illness, travel or a break.
• If something feels wrong or unsafe, you can end the pairing, or report your keyholder from their profile, at any time.
