Powers for keyholders
See what the person you hold lets you do, ask for more, and lift, keep or renew a lock.
The person you hold decides what you can do. Each thing is a power they give you: Open (you can use it, and they can change it any time), Locked until a date (they've promised it until then, and only you can lift it sooner) or Off. Their Powers page shows the list from your side.
Where to find it
Open their page (from Home, or Pairing) and tap Powers, or tap Powers under their name on the Pairing page. The button shows a number when they've asked you to lift something.
Each power shows what it lets you do and any limits they set, for example “Up to 3 open, deadlines of 6 hours or more” for Tasks.
What happens when something isn't allowed
The forms you use every day follow their powers. If a power is off, or what you set is outside their limits, CageCheck tells you why instead of doing it, for example “Riley hasn’t given you the ‘Penances’ power. You can ask for it on their Powers page.” or “Riley allows deadlines of 6 hours or more.” The task and penance forms also show their limits as you fill them in.
Things that happen by themselves follow the powers too. If they don't allow automatic penances, or the penance is outside their limits now, a missed task's penance isn't issued, and you're told why. A repeating task's next one leaves at least their shortest deadline, and a redo leaves at least that (12 hours at least).
A few more follow their limits:
- Moving a timed release's end: the longest release they allow counts from when it began, so moving the end again and again can't stretch it.
- Rejecting a check-in photo needs the Photo check-ins power (it counts as a missed check-in). Accepting one never does.
- Making a task private needs Private tasks allowed under Tasks.
Ask for a power
- On a power that's off (or open, to ask for more), tap Ask for it or Ask for more.
- Set the limits you'd like, if it has any.
- To ask for it locked, tick Ask for it locked until a date and pick the date (90 days at most).
- Add a note if you like, and tap Ask.
They're told, and can Grant it, Grant locked or say Not now. You're told what they chose. An ask waits 14 days, and you can only have one waiting for each power. In your first week together, a lock you ask for can only start after day 8.
Lift, keep or renew a lock
- Lift: on a locked power, tap Lift, then Lift it. It's open again (a minimum lock time just ends), and they're told.
- Keep: when they ask you to lift a lock, a banner says Riley asks you to lift “Tasks”, with their note. Tap Lift or Keep. If you keep it, they're told, and can ask again the next day.
- Renew…: before a lock ends, pick a later date and tap Ask to renew. They accept it with their password, or let it end on its date. You're both told a week before a lock ends.
What's never a power
However much they give you, these always stay theirs: emergency unlock, their safeword on any task or penance, ending the pairing, blocking and reporting, deleting their own posts and recordings, the lock's fail-safes, and their hard limits.
CageCheck can lift a lock if they ask us to. You're told only that CageCheck lifted it.
Feed rules and contracts
You ask for Check-ins on the feed and Proof on the feed from their page, as before. Agreeing locks them for up to 90 days, and you can lift them any time. A contract you both sign locks the powers its terms cover until its review or end date. See Contracts.
