🗝️ For keyholders

Manage their lock

Use the page for someone you hold to set check-ins and photo rules, nudge them, answer requests, release them and see past locks.

Each person you hold has their own page. Tap their card on Home to open it.

What you can change here depends on the powers they've given you. Without one, CageCheck says so, for example “Riley hasn’t given you the ‘Check-in schedule’ power”, and you can ask for it with Powers at the top. See Powers for keyholders.

At the top

Their name, how long you've been paired, and buttons to Message or Call them. The ••• menu lets you report or block them. Blocking ends the pairing.

While they're locked, the gold card shows their status, any missed check-ins, the lock timer, their last check-in and when the next one is due. When a check-in is overdue, a red line also says when their lock will end on its own (see When a lock ends on its own).

Tap Nudge to send them "Morgan is waiting on your check-in". You can nudge once an hour.

Check-in schedule

Under Minimum check-ins, choose how often they must check in at least: every 6 hours, twice a day, once a day, every 2 days, every 3 days or once a week. They can always check in more often. They're told when you change it, for example "Morgan now requires a check-in at least once a day".

Below it, Check-ins taken offline is on to start with: with no signal, they can check in on their phone, and it's sent when they're back online, counting from when they made it. Switch it off if they must be online to check in. They're told either way. While they aren't locked, the switch is after Photo check-ins. See Offline check-ins.

Photo check-ins

Under Photo check-ins, choose Off, Every check-in or Random. With Random, pick how often (about 1 in 4, about 1 in 3, about half, or most). They only find out at check-in time.

They take the photo in CageCheck, which stamps a one-time code on it automatically, so old photos can't be reused. You approve or reject each one (see Review check-in photos). They're told when you change this. If they also require photos for themselves, the stricter setting applies.

Answer their requests

Release requests. A banner says what they asked for, for example "Riley asked for 1 day off". You get an alert too, and their card on Home can show 🔓 Release request.

  • Tap Release to open the release options, already set to what they asked for.
  • Tap Not now to say no for now. Add a message if you like (up to 300 characters), then tap Say not now. The request clears, and Riley is told their lock carries on. They can ask again an hour after their last request.

If you don't answer, the request stays on their page until you do, you release them, or the lock or pairing ends. After an hour they can send it again.

Check-in exceptions. Requests to skip a check-in, or to excuse a missed or late one, show as 🙏 cards near the top. Tap one, add a note if you like, and tap Approve or Decline. Tick Approve with a penance to approve it and give a penance too (not offered while tasks and penances are paused, or when they already have 10 open penances from you). See Check-in exceptions.

Release them

Tap Release, then choose:

  • For a while: 2 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days or 1 week. Their lock keeps counting and nothing is due. They lock back up with a photo you review. See Timed release.
  • For good: ends their lock and saves it to their history.

Add a message if you like (up to 500 characters), then tap Release for 1 day (it names the length you picked) or Release for good. They're told straight away.

The release options for Riley

While they're on release, a card shows when they're due back, with Change end time (a new length counting from now, or Lock back up now) and Call back now. To end their lock instead, tap Release for good. They're told about every change. If time runs out before they lock back up, it counts as a missed check-in until they send their photo.

Releases during this lock are listed under the timer, and count as locked time.

If they use a Beta lockbox, the release sheet says what happens to it (for example "CageCheck reveals their lockbox code to them"). See Lockboxes for keyholders.

Further down the page

  • Their lockbox (Beta lockboxes only): how they're locked, their fail-safe and maximum lock time, and their dial photo to check. See Lockboxes for keyholders.
  • Check-ins this lock: their latest check-ins, with photos to review. One taken with no signal shows 📶 Offline and how much later it was sent.
  • Tasks: set one with + New task. Their hard limits are shown here. See Tasks.
  • Diary: see Reading a diary as a keyholder.
  • Pause tasks and penances: see Pause tasks and penances.
  • Penances: give one with + Assign, and review proof. The card shows the latest 8; tap Show all for the rest. + Assign is switched off while tasks and penances are paused, or when they already have 10 open penances from you. See Penances.
  • Photo check-ins: see above.
  • Riley's family: decide what their family members can do. See Family powers and watching over.
  • A wheel or dice timer, if they're playing one: add time or reveal it. See Lock games.
  • Followers can add time: on unless you switch it off. Off stops their followers adding time to their lock timers while you're paired (an open one closes at once, and they're told). See Let followers add time.

Past locks with you

Past locks with you lists locks that ended while you held their key: how long each lasted, the dates, check-ins and missed check-ins, and how it ended, for example Released by keyholder (you released them for good), Emergency unlock, No check-ins (it ended on its own), Maximum time reached, Released myself (keyholder away) or Ended by a moderator. You only see locks you held, never their locks with anyone else.
