Timed release
Ask your keyholder to let you out for a while or for good, what being on release looks like, and how to lock back up.
A timed release lets you out for a while (to clean up, see a doctor, travelβ¦) without ending your lock. Your timer keeps counting, nothing is due while you're out, and you lock back up with a photo. Releases come from your keyholder, so you need one to ask.
Ask for a release
- On Home, scroll down and tap Ask keyholder for release.
- Choose For a while and pick how long: 2 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days or 1 week. Or choose End my lock to ask to be released for good (see End a lock).
- Add a message if you like, then tap Send request.
Morgan gets a notification. Your lock page then shows "You asked Morgan for 1 day off" and the Release requested chip. Morgan decides, and can choose a different length from the one you asked for.
You can ask once an hour:
- If Morgan says Not now, you get a notification (with their message, if they wrote one), the request clears and your lock carries on. You can ask again an hour after your last request; until then, your lock page says when.
- If Morgan hasn't answered after an hour, tap Ask again to send a new request.
Send Morgan a message if you want to talk it over.
While you're on release
You get a notification like "Morgan released you for 1 day", with their message if they wrote one. On your lock page:
- A card shows Released by Morgan, until when, and their note.
- The padlock on your timer opens, and the chip says On release. Your lock keeps counting.
- Nothing is due, and you can't ask to skip a check-in. A request that was waiting closes.
- About 2 hours before the end, you get Your release ends soon.
- With a Beta lockbox, your way out opens: your lockbox code shows under Your way out, or your smart box is told to unlock (or gives you a one-time code). See How your lock is locked.
Morgan can change the end time (up to 14 days ahead) or call you back early. You're told either way.
Lock back up
You can lock back up any time before the release ends. Early is fine.
With a combination lockbox, set a new code first: tap π’ Use a code CageCheck makes (or send a new π· Photo of scrambled dials) and set your box to it. CageCheck won't lock you back up until it has your new code. See Combination lockboxes.
- Tap π Lock back up.
- Take a photo showing you're locked again. It's always required here.
- Add a Comment for Morgan if you like.
- Tap π Iβm locked back up.
This ends your release and counts as a check-in. Your next check-in is due one interval later. Morgan (and family who review or acknowledge your check-ins) are told you locked back up, and Morgan reviews the photo. If they reject it, your release reopens and ends right away, so send a new photo showing you're locked.
If the release runs out
The card turns into Your release is over and the button into π Lock back up now. Until you lock back up, it counts as a missed check-in, and Morgan is told you haven't locked back up. When you do lock back up, it's marked late.
What counts as locked time
All of it. Time on a release counts toward this lock, your Best ever and your Total locked. Your history shows it, for example "Includes a release from your keyholder (1d 0h), counted as locked time".
A release also restarts the countdown before a lock ends on its own: it can't end until at least a day after your release does (see When a lock ends on its own).
