Check in

How to check in, add a photo, mood and note, get reminders, and what happens when a check-in is late or missed.

A check-in tells your keyholder (and you) that you're still locked. Your schedule sets the minimum; you can check in as often as you like.

Check in

  1. Tap Check in now on Home. On a computer you can also use Check in in the side menu.
  2. If the page shows a Photo or video check-in card marked Required, tap ๐Ÿ“ท Take photo. Tap the round button to take the picture, then Use photo (or Retake). โ‡„ Flip switches cameras. You can tap ๐ŸŽฅ Record video instead: see Video check-ins.
  3. Under How are you feeling?, pick a mood if you like: ๐Ÿ’ช Strong, ๐Ÿ˜Š Good, ๐Ÿ˜ Okay, ๐Ÿ˜ค Restless or ๐Ÿ˜“ Struggling. Tap it again to clear it.
  4. Add a Note if you want (up to 500 characters).
  5. Tap โœ“ Confirm โ€” still locked.

You'll see Day 12 logged (or whichever day you're on) and when your next check-in is due. From there you can go Back to dashboard or โ†— Share it to X, Bluesky or anywhere (see Share to X, Bluesky and anywhere).

About the photo

You don't need to write anything down. CageCheck stamps your check-in code, a serial number and the time onto a band under the photo automatically. If the camera won't open, tap Camera not working? Choose from your library (your keyholder sees it came from your library). Photos can be up to 15 MB. More in Photo check-ins.

Check in as often as you like

Each check-in resets the clock: your next one is due one interval after your latest check-in. The only limit is a minute between check-ins, so a double tap doesn't count twice. If you're not locked any more, be honest and end your lock instead (see End a lock).

No signal?

You can still check in. With no connection, your check-in waits on your phone and is sent by itself when you're back online, counting from when you made it. See Offline check-ins.

Who sees your check-in

  • Your keyholder is notified every time, and sees your mood and note.
  • Family members who watch over you and can acknowledge check-ins (Sam, for example) are told too.
  • When your keyholder or one of those family members marks it seen, or reviews its photo, it shows Seen.
  • A short "checked in ยท Day 12" post can appear in the feed. Your mood, note and photo never do.

Reminders

About 2 hours before a check-in is due, you get a Check-in due soon notification and the chip turns amber. Your keyholder can also tap Nudge to send "Morgan is waiting on your check-in" (once an hour at most). You choose how reminders reach you in Settings (More โ†’ Settings on a phone), under Push notifications and Email โ†’ Check-in reminders. See Install the app and turn on notifications.

Late and missed check-ins

When the due time passes:

  • Your lock shows Check-in overdue and the button changes to Check in now (late).
  • A missed check-in is counted. You get a Missed check-in notification, your lock shows how many you've missed, and Morgan (and family who acknowledge your check-ins) are told you missed it. If another full interval goes by, another miss is counted.
  • A red โณ line shows how long you have before the lock ends on its own (see When a lock ends on its own).

A late check-in still counts. It's marked Late, and your keyholder sees "(late)". Had a good reason? Ask your keyholder to excuse it (see Check-in exceptions). If they do, it shows Late ยท excused.
