Your keyholder's powers
See and change what your keyholder can do, lock a power until a date, undo a new lock, answer their asks, and ask them to lift a lock.
Everything your keyholder can do is a power that you give them. The Powers page lists them all, and shows each one as:
- Open: your keyholder can use it, and you can change it or take it back any time.
- Locked until a date: you've promised it until then. Only your keyholder can lift it sooner.
- Off: they can't use it. They can ask you for it.
Your keyholder sees the same page from their side. Nothing on it ever touches your safety tools (see What's always yours).
Where to find it
Open the Keyholder tab and tap Powers under your keyholder's name. When something's waiting for you there (an ask, a new lock you can still undo, a renewal, locks to confirm), your Home page says Something's waiting on your Powers page.
The powers come in groups:
- The lock: Timed releases, Lock time (adding time to your lock timer), Minimum lock time (saying no to your release requests until a date) and the Lockbox code (which comes with how you lock, so it isn't changed here).
- Check-ins: the Check-in schedule and Photo check-ins.
- Tasks and penances: Tasks, Penances and Live penances (within your live penance limits).
- The feed: Check-ins on the feed and Proof on the feed. Your keyholder asks for these from your page, and agreeing locks them (see below).
- Extras: the Diary (reading what you share, and prompts), Followers add time and Family powers.
When you pair, you pick a starting point (Light, Standard or Total power exchange) and can change any power before you send or accept. See Pair with a keyholder.
Give, change or take back a power
- On the power, tap Grant (or Change if it's already open).
- Choose On or Off.
- If it has limits of your own, set them. For example, for Penances: Most open at once, Shortest time to do one, and whether Automatic ones (for a missed task) are okay. Leave one empty for CageCheck's own limit.
- Tap Save (or Take it back).
Your keyholder is told. Your limits show under the power, and in their forms: if they try something outside them, CageCheck tells them what you allow. Narrowing a limit applies straight away: a check-in schedule outside your new limits moves into them, and taking back Photo check-ins stops photos being asked for.
Taking a power back stops anything new. What your keyholder already set stays, and your safeword works on each task and penance.
Lock a power until a date
Locking a power is a promise: until the date, you can't switch it off, narrow its limits (you can still widen them) or move its date sooner (you can move it later). Only your keyholder can lift it sooner.
- On an open power, tap Lock… (for Minimum lock time, Lock until…).
- Pick the date, or tap 7 days, 30 days or 90 days. A lock lasts 90 days at most.
- Tick Renew by itself if you'd like it to lock again for the same length when it ends. You're reminded 3 days before, and can stop it.
- Enter your password and tap Lock it.
Changed your mind? For 24 hours after you lock a power (or renew a lock, or a contract you signed locks one), a banner says You locked “Tasks” until… with Changed my mind: tap it and the power goes back to how it was. After 24 hours the lock is final, and your keyholder is told.
A Minimum lock time means your release requests wait until its date. Emergency unlock and your safeword always work.
When a lock reaches its date the power is open again, and you're both told a week before. Your keyholder can ask to renew it to a later date: you'll see Morgan asks to renew… with Renew…, or you can let it end.
Your first week together
Nothing locks in a pairing's first 7 days. Locks you choose in that time wait: the power shows Open · locks on day 8. On day 8 you're asked Your first week is over: lock what you chose? Tap Confirm… and enter your password to lock them, or tap Not … next to any you've changed your mind about (for example Not tasks). Nothing locks until you confirm.
When your keyholder asks
Your keyholder can ask for a power, wider limits, or a power locked until a date. You're told, and the ask waits at the top of your Powers page for 14 days:
- Grant: it's open, with the limits they asked for.
- Grant locked…: it's locked until the date (you can change the date). You'll need your password.
- Not now: nothing changes, and they're told.
Ask your keyholder to lift a lock
On a locked power, tap Ask to stop, add a note if you like, and tap Ask to stop. Your keyholder sees it straight away and can Lift it or Keep it locked (you're told either way). You can ask again once a day.
If nobody answers for a week from your first ask, CageCheck checks in with you privately. See A private check-in from CageCheck.
The feed
Check-ins on the feed and Proof on the feed work a little differently: your keyholder asks for them from your page, and agreeing (in Settings, or by signing a contract that has them) locks them for up to 90 days. In your first week together they lock on day 8, when you confirm. Until they're locked, and once the date has passed, you can stop them yourself (your keyholder is told). You can always delete a single post. See Check-ins on the feed and Proof on the feed.
A signed contract can lock powers too: its length becomes a minimum lock time, and its check-ins lock the check-in schedule. See Contracts.
What's always yours
These are never powers, and no lock, preset or contract can touch them:
- Emergency unlock, and your safeword on any task or penance.
- Ending the pairing, blocking and reporting, at any time.
- Deleting your own posts, photos and recordings.
- The fail-safes: your lock's maximum time, ending after 5 days without a check-in, and releasing yourself after 7 days without a keyholder.
- Your hard limits: tasks and penances that cross one are refused.
What changed
At the foot of the page, What changed lists every grant, lock, ask and answer, with who did it and when.
