Reading a diary as a keyholder

Read the diary entries the person you hold shares with you, reply to them, and leave a prompt for their next entry.

The person you hold can share diary entries with you. You can read them, reply, and leave a question for their next entry.

Reading their diary is one of the powers they give you: Diary. If they switch it off, the Diary card says so, and you can't read their entries, reply or leave a prompt until they give it back.

Where to find it

  1. On your Home screen, tap the person under Your locked members.
  2. Scroll to the Diary card. It shows their two latest shared entries.
  3. Tap Open to see them all. The number on the button is how many they've shared with you.

You get an alert when they share an entry, like "Riley wrote in their diary", with the day of their lock. Alerts and emails never include what an entry says.

What you can see

  • Only the entries they share with you, while you're paired. Their private entries stay private.
  • Entries they shared with a past keyholder stay hidden, unless they choose to share them with you.
  • When your pairing ends, you can't open their diary any more.

Each entry shows the day of their lock, when they wrote it, and their mood and frustration (1 to 10) if they added them. Photos and videos they added show with it: tap one to see it large or play it. Nobody else can see them.

Reply to an entry

  1. Open the entry.
  2. Type in the box under Talk about it (or Replies, once there are some).
  3. Tap Send reply.

They get an alert that you replied. You can delete your own replies. Only the two of you can see the conversation.

Leave a prompt

A prompt is a question for their next entry, like "What tempted you today?".

  1. In the Diary card, or on their full diary page, tap 💬 Leave a prompt for the next entry.
  2. Type your question (up to 300 characters).
  3. Tap Send prompt.

They get an alert, and the question waits at the top of their diary until they answer it with a shared entry. On your side it shows as "Your prompt, waiting for an answer".

  • Tap Change to write a new question, then Replace prompt.
  • Tap Withdraw to take it back.

There's one prompt at a time: a new one replaces the one waiting. When they answer, you get an alert, and the entry shows your question above it ("Asked: …").
