Trick or Treat
The Halloween 2026 event. Each day you check in opens a door in a haunted mansion. Draw treats and tricks, prove dares with a check-in, and reach the Crypt by Halloween.
Trick or Treat runs from October 19 to October 31, 2026. The haunted mansion has 13 rooms, from the Foyer to the Crypt. Each day you check in opens one door, and each door draws a card.
It's just for fun: nothing in the mansion changes your lock, its timer or your keyholder's rules. Days are your own calendar, wherever you live.
Open a door
- Check in as usual.
- Open Game Center, then Trick or Treat (or tap the card on your Home screen).
- Tap Open the door. The card turns over.
You can open one door for each day you checked in. Check-ins since October 19 count, even from before your first visit. Those earlier doors hold treats only, and Open all the earlier ones opens them in one go.
The cards
- Treats: XP, a lantern, or a Mansion shard. Five shards earn the Haunted Mansion badge.
- Tricks: a dare to prove with a check-in within 48 hours. The house dares at tier 1 and 2 need a photo. A Warden's own dares can ask for a photo, a video or just a check-in.
- Mercy: your next trick is cancelled.
Tier 3 tricks need a short video, and only turn up if you switch on Harder dares at the bottom of the page. They're off unless you choose them.
With a keyholder: the Warden
If you have a keyholder, they're your Warden. Each card you draw goes to them first, face down for you, and they can:
- Let it stand.
- Swap it for a treat, a house dare, or a card of their own (a dare or a reward).
- Haunt it: make a trick one tier harder. They can't go past tier 2 unless you've switched on Harder dares.
If they haven't decided after 12 hours, the card stands as it is. Catch-up doors don't go to the Warden.
Keyholders find all of this on the Warden tab: the cards to decide, proof to check, and pleas to answer. When someone reaches the Crypt, their Warden gets the Warden badge.
Prove a dare
- On the check-in page, under Prove a dare, tick the dare.
- Add the photo or video it needs, and check in.
With a Warden, they check your proof: It's done gives you 25 XP for each tier. Not quite gives you at least 24 more hours to prove it again. If they reject that check-in's photo, the dare waits for proof again too. Without a Warden, the dare counts as done when you check in.
A dare you don't prove in time runs out: the mansion takes a lantern. Nothing else happens. While your account is on hold, or tasks and penances are paused, it waits.
Lanterns
You can carry up to 5 lanterns. Spend them on:
- Peek (1): see the next card before you open the door. The door then gives you that card.
- Plead (2): ask for a trick to go down a tier (tier 1: let off). With a Warden, they say yes or no, and a no gives you your lanterns back. Without one, it goes straight down.
- Reroll (3): draw a new card for a trick, once in the mansion. Only without a Warden.
The Ghost
If a day ends without a check-in while yours was due, the Ghost takes a lantern and pulls you back a room. On a 24-hour schedule, that's any day without a check-in. On a 48-hour schedule, it's the second day in a row. The Ghost never comes:
- while your account is on hold, or tasks and penances are paused;
- on a day you weren't locked;
- in the Crypt: it can take a lantern there, but can't move you out.
The Crypt and the Last Candle
Reach room 13 to enter the Crypt. Then there's the finale: check in on Halloween night, October 31, between 8 and 9 PM your time. You get the Last Candle badge and the Halloween 2026 avatar frame. Anyone who checks in then gets them, wherever they got to in the mansion. Half an hour before, players get a reminder.
The leaderboard
The Leaderboard tab shows who reached the Crypt first, who has the most lanterns, the longest runs of check-in days, and the Wardens. If you hide your lock on your profile, you're not listed.
After Halloween
The doors close after October 31. Dares still open can be proved until November 2, then the results are final and open cards are void. The event stays in the Game Center for a week after that.
