Post a video

Record a video in the app or choose one from your phone or computer, trim it to 2 minutes, and post it to the feed.

You can add a video of up to 2 minutes to a post: record it with your camera right in CageCheck, or choose one you already have on your phone or computer. You can trim it before you post it.

You need a verified ID to post videos. If you haven't verified yet, tapping 🎥 Video opens the ID check first. See Verify your ID.

Add a video to a post

  1. On the feed, tap the box that says Share how it's going… (@ to mention someone).
  2. Tap 🎥 Video.
  3. Choose Record a video, Choose a video or, if you keep videos there, From My media.
Adding a video: record one or choose one

A post with a video can't also have photos or a poll, and it doesn't show a link preview card.

Record a video

  1. Tap Record a video. The camera opens (tap ⇄ Flip to switch cameras).
  2. Tap the red button to start. You see REC and how long you've been recording.
  3. Tap ■ Stop when you're done. It stops by itself at 2:00.
  4. Watch it back. Choose the part to keep (see below) and tick Remove sound if you want it silent.
  5. Tap Use this video, or Record again to start over.

Nothing is posted until you tap Post. A recording you don't use is deleted after half an hour.

Choose a video from your device

  1. Tap Choose a video. On a phone you can pick from your camera roll (or film something new); on a computer, pick a file.
  2. CageCheck takes MP4, MOV and WebM videos up to 2 GB, filmed at up to 4K. A longer video is fine: you keep up to 2 minutes of it.
  3. Choose the part to keep, tick Remove sound if you like, then tap Use this video.

If your browser can't show a preview of the video, you'll see "This browser can't preview this video, so its first 2 minutes are used." You can still use it, and trim it later in My videos.

Use a video from My media

  1. Tap From My media (or 🗂️ My media in the post box) and tap the video.
  2. Choose the part to keep and tick Remove sound if you like, then tap Use this video.

It's already on CageCheck, so nothing is uploaded again: CageCheck starts getting it ready straight away. The copy in My media stays as it is. You can also tap Post it on a video in My media.

Choose the part to keep

Under the video there's a timeline with a gold handle at each end. The part between them is what's kept, up to 2:00.

  • Drag a handle to move the start or the end. The video shows that moment.
  • Drag the highlighted part to move both handles together.
  • Tap the timeline to move the nearer handle there.
  • With a keyboard, the arrow keys move a handle by a second (10 seconds with Shift).
  • Tap ▶ Play the part you keep to watch just that part.

You see how long it is as you go, for example "Keeps 1:45".

Uploading and getting it ready

After Use this video, the post shows Uploading your video with how far it's got. Keep CageCheck open until it's sent. You can keep writing your post meanwhile, or tap Cancel to stop.

Then CageCheck gets it ready (Getting your video ready…), which usually takes a minute or so. Your @username and cagecheck.io are stamped on it, and anything in the file that could identify you (like where it was filmed) is removed.

  • If you leave the feed while it's on its way, you'll see "Your video keeps uploading. Find it in My videos." It carries on as long as CageCheck stays open, and it's waiting for you on the feed when you come back.
  • A phone may pause uploads while CageCheck is in the background. It carries on when you come back. If it's paused for more than 15 minutes, it stops, and you choose the video again.
  • If it can't be prepared, you're told why in your alerts ("Your video couldn't be prepared"). Remove it and try again, or choose another video.

Post it

Before you post, answer two things:

  • Does this video show nudity or sexual content? Tap Yes or No. If you say Yes, it's blurred for members who haven't chosen to see sensitive content, until they tap it.
  • Tick Everyone in this video is an adult and agreed to it being posted.

Then choose All members or Followers only and tap Post. Post turns on as soon as you've answered both: you don't have to wait for your video to finish uploading or being prepared.

A video ready to post, with the two questions

In the feed, a video that isn't marked sensitive shows its first frame and plays when someone taps it. Videos can't be downloaded from the feed, and they can't be shared to X or Bluesky. Members who choose Show sensitive photos without blur in Settings see sensitive videos without the blur too, and Blur all images on a device blurs every video. See Privacy and safety.

Post now, carry on

If your video is still uploading or being prepared when you tap Post, your post waits for it and goes up on its own. You can keep using CageCheck meanwhile.

  • A Posting your video bar at the top of the app shows how far the upload has got, then Getting your video ready….
  • Nobody sees the post until the video is ready. Then it goes up as a new post at the top of the feed, and anyone you @mention (or @followers) is told at that moment.
  • You get Your post is live, with a link to it.
  • Keep CageCheck open until the upload is done (you can use any part of the app). If CageCheck is closed before then, the bar says Your video stopped uploading: tap Choose again and your text comes back, ready for the video.
  • If the video can't be prepared, or can't be posted for another reason, you're told why (Your post wasn't published). Tap Try again and your text comes back in the box.
  • One video post can be on its way at a time.

My videos

Videos you've recorded or chosen but haven't posted wait in My videos: tap Your unposted videos after 🎥 Video, or go to Live → My videos. Recordings of your own lives are there too (see Record your live).

  • Each one says Recorded or Uploaded, and whether it's posted.
  • Open one to watch it, trim the start or end, post it (with the same two questions), download it (Player+ and Pro) or delete it.
  • Videos you don't post are deleted after 7 days. You can have up to 10 unposted videos at once.
  • Deleting a post puts its video back in My videos for another 7 days. If a CageCheck moderator takes a video off the feed, it can't be posted again.
