Host an event

Create a live at a set time or an in-person meetup, keep the exact place for the people going, approve who comes, change or cancel it, and go live.

Anyone with a verified ID can host events (see Verify your ID). You can have up to 5 upcoming events at a time.

Create an event

  1. Open Events and tap + Host an event.
  2. Choose 📍 In person or 🔴 Live on CageCheck.
  3. Give it a title, and choose when it Starts (in your own time) and How long it runs (30 minutes to 3 days).
  4. In person:
    • City or area is needed. Everyone who can see the event sees it.
    • Exact place is optional: the venue and address.
    • Choose who sees the exact place: Only people going (recommended) or Everyone who can see the event.
    • Places: leave it empty for no limit.
    • Approve who comes: "Going" becomes a request you answer.
  5. Add what it's about and a link if you like.
  6. Choose All members or Followers.
    • Live events for All members: turn on Share it publicly for a link anyone can open, even without an account. See Share it publicly below.
  7. Leave Post it in the feed on to post it for the same people who can see it. Your followers get a notification either way.
  8. Tap Create event.

Requests

With Approve who comes, people asking to come show under Asking to come on the event page, and you get an alert for each.

  • Tap Approve and they're going. They're told, and they can see the exact place.
  • Tap Decline and they're told, kindly, that you can't fit them in this time.

Change or cancel

  • Change: edit anything except the kind of event. If you change the time or the place, everyone going, interested or asking is told. Turning off Approve who comes lets everyone waiting in.
  • Cancel event: give a reason if you like. Everyone who answered is told, with your reason. This can't be undone.

Share it publicly

A live event can have a page anyone can open, so you can post it on X, Facebook, Bluesky, Reddit or anywhere else:

  1. When you create the event (or later, with Change), turn on Share it publicly. It's for live events open to All members: a followers-only event can't be shared publicly.
  2. On the event page, under Share it anywhere, tap Copy, Post on X, Facebook or Bluesky.
Share it anywhere, on the event page

The link opens a page with the event's title, what it's about, who's hosting and when, in each visitor's own time, with a countdown. Links posted on X, Facebook, Discord and the like show a preview card with the title and time.

  • Visitors can add it to their calendar, or join CageCheck to get a reminder. Members who can see the event get Open in CageCheck to say you're coming.
  • When you go live, the page changes to Watch now, and your live opens to people without an account, like a public live link: after confirming they're 18 or older, they can watch, chat and ask questions. You can still close the live to guests from Share during it.
  • The page never shows who's coming (only how many), or anything else from your profile beyond your name and picture. It isn't listed in search engines.
  • Turn Share it publicly off to stop the link working. Turning it back on brings the same link back.

In some US states, the law requires an age check for sites like CageCheck. Visitors from those states need an account with a verified ID to watch.

Going live

For a live event, 🔴 Go live now appears on the event page from 30 minutes before it starts until it ends. The live takes the event's title and audience. Everyone going or interested is told, and the event page links to the live. See Go live.

Your live takes questions from the start: viewers ask and vote, and you put one on screen to answer it. See Questions in a live.

You get a reminder an hour before.

Good to know

  • You're the host, so you don't answer your own event. It shows Hosting for you.
  • Your events are on the Hosting tab.
  • People report events that break the rules, and moderators can take them down. If that happens, you're told why, and everyone coming is told it's cancelled.
